Hi, my name is Keely Blest. I am a graduate of the Bachelor of Public Health in Health Promotion and Nutrition at Griffith University on the Gold Coast. I relocated to Queensland from Tasmania in 2010, seeking new experiences, opportunities and following my desire to graduate from university. After having completed one year of a Business degree, I decided that my true passion was to contribute to preventing ill health, and promoting ways in which people can lead healthier and more meaningful lives.  I chose a different path which led me to the Bachelor of Public Health, a choice that I now consider to be a defining moment in my adult life.

Upon moving to the Gold Coast, I made a conscious decision to take part in activities outside university life and become involved in the local community. This provided me with the opportunity to meet new people and strengthen my sense of belonging. I am actively involved in co-ordinating the Gold Coast Community Christmas Lunch each year, coaching and playing for Logan Basketball, and working part-time to support my studies and living expenses. I find these experiences very rewarding, and feel that they have contributed to my personal growth and development.

One of the most important aspects of my life is my family. Although they are scattered throughout Australia, and overseas, they are my greatest support, and have contributed greatly toward my values and moral standing. I have learnt that it is important to find balance in your life, work hard, not underestimate what you are capable of, and to consider others as you manoeuvre through different times in your life.

Having completed my degree I have started to reflect upon the amazing opportunities that The Bachelor of Public Health has offered, the knowledge I have gained, the inspirational people I have met, and the practical experience that will form the foundation for my life post-university. I now have the opportunity to combine my theoretical knowledge, practical experiences and life experience to embark upon a career in health promotion and prevention, and contribute toward improving the health and wellbeing of others within the community.
